Prof. Dr. Azizah Kassim is a professor at the Institute of Malaysian and International Studies in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. She received her PhD in Social Anthropology from the School of Oriental & African Studies in London and has written a number of papers about the Adat Perpatih Society in Malaysia. I was lucky enough to secure an appointment with her with the help of my mom and it turns out that her late husband was my late grandfather's friend. Small world!
I went to Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan to interview my mom's uncle, Atok Hassan for our Minangkabau project. It was about 2 hours drive from my place to his house in a village called Padang Lebar. Usually, I will go back home every summer to meet my family and friends but I didn't get a chance to go back last summer because I was super busy with my BA's final exhibition and graduation. So here I am, in this lovely city of Kuala Lumpur, where I was born and bred. But hey.. this is not a holiday because I need to do some work for my MA course.
